Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it. – Proverbs 22:6 (New International Version)
This verse has hit me hard the past couple of weeks. I have a picture with this verse in my daughter’s room. Now that she is five, I can really see how we have “trained” her has affected her behavior.
She is a very giving child. She loves to make cards and get gifts for people. I would like to think she gets this from the fact that she used to pick flowers as a toddler and I would tell her to give them to people she sees.
She is annoying at bedtime because I spoiled her and would snuggle with her until she fell asleep.
She used to love church and would cry when she could not go. It was because I brought her and we taught her about Jesus.
Now she finds church boring, but that is this week. I could let her not go, but good habits are easy to break. When I was a child, I also found church boring, but was brought to church every Sunday. I strayed in college, but went back without someone making me go.
Will my children be the same way? I hope so. Just I hope they are better Christians.

What a touching post!! I loved it. My kids are all now teens– one daughter will be 20 next year– so I’m really starting to see the fruits of our labors (and the weeds from our mistakes). Still, God is soooo good to us. My kids are my jewels. Yours sound so precious, too!
P.S. I absolutely adore your new look!

Ah, Lisa, mine are now 32 and 28. Their faults and virtues, just like mine, are visible for all to see – especially where they take after me. The youngest is walking with the Lord, the oldest is still a prodigal. I was 39 before I was saved, so I figure I only have to wait seven more years for the oldest to come home.
Thanks for sharing your heart. It’s hard to be a parent.
