Annie over at A Yank Gone South, beat me to it. Curse you!
So read her post and then read mine. I swear, I am not copying, she really beat me to this!
Do you find this Sean Delona cartoon from the NY Post offensive? You PETA people don’t count.
There seems to be a bit of an uprising over this cartoon because people believe the artist is comparing the chimp to… wait for it… President Obama.
No, really.
Let’s think about this rationally.
1. The chimp is in reference to the story of a woman mauled by a chimp in Connecticut.
2. President Obama did not write the stimulus bill:
Unfortunately, congressional negotiators crafting the final bill
3. Daryl Cagle, a cartoonist who is not exactly conservative, Twittered about another chimp reference in cartoons:

I posted this on a message board I’m on and didn’t say anything – just asked opinions. I was shocked at the amount of people that said it crossed the race line and made fun of Obama and was inappropriate.
It’s so interesting, how people jump to conclusions. This has truly been a fascinating study in human behavior.
Incinuations and interpretations are a dangerous thing.
Bush was compared to a chimp for years, there were websites even set up, yet no outcry there. And I didn’t even see this cartoon as being Obama, but Congress. Is monkey humor going to be off limits for the next four years? This reminds me of outcry concerning the Danish cartoon depicting Mohammed. It’s crazy. Where does it all end?
It doesn’t end…the next time you speak out at a Board of Supervisors meeting or a school board meeting and you are escorted out by police you will know how far things have gone.
