The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord,
but gracious words are pure.
- Proverbs 15:26 (English Standard Version)
I look at a lot that was said during the shooting in Arizona. So many nasty things were said. Blame was thrown everywhere except where it belonged – on the shoulders of the shooter.
And what will happen to some of these people with their words? Will those who claimed Representative Giffords was dead lose their jobs for the false report? Will the words of the shooter come back to haunt him in court? Will the words of the sheriff cost him the next election?
We all say stuff we regret, but today in the need to get the news out right away, mistakes are often made and blame is wrongly placed – often without consequences.
In an emergency situation especially, use words to console not to condemn.
