After my last post about home improvement, I got to thinking. Scary, I know. Have you ever been bored in a hardware store (you know, while your significant other is searching for some widget for four hours and your children are not around so you actually can peruse a store instead of screaming “DON’T TOUCH THAT!”) and started looking around and think to yourself “What the heck is that for?” Seriously. And the smaller the hardware store, the more little widgets they have!
I go to hardware stores for the basics: paint, gardening stuff, appliances, light bulbs and to dream. But I cannot help but wonder what the other stuff in the store is for: industrial hand wheels, a corrugated coupler, and little bits and bolts. And people make and need these things! I remember as a kid seeing all these bits and finding them fascinating. My dad had shelves of this crap and I never knew what for… maybe he didn’t either.
So I guess I will stick with what I know and leave the whoseewhatsits and the dooflickies to the professionals. That is why we pay them the big bucks.
