Work Order er… Suggestion

So a couple of years ago we noticed that our yard was kind of sinking into the ditch owned by the town at the edge of our yard. DH called the town and they put in a work order. Supposedly. When no one came by, he called again. Nothing.

Fast forward to August 2009.

A 6 year old up the street was being pulled in a wagon by her uncle. He let it go and she went flying down the road then head first into the ditch. She lucked out – her face was scratched up really bad, but it could have been much worse. So we called again. The girls’ parents approached the town manager about filling in the ditch. A work order was put in.

A couple of weeks ago I called the town again. They were going to put in a work order they said. I called last week to check on it and was told I would be called back the next day. No return call. I called AGAIN a few days later. Apparently a work order is on record – from August 30, 2009. The reason for the work not being completed yet? The heavy snow from the winter.

Do what?

The snow started in December, OVER THREE MONTHS after the work order was put in.

Now I know how local government works. Or how it should work. This is a small town of about 20,000 people. Don’t tell me they are so busy with work orders that they can’t do something that was first requested two years ago and that was promised to be fixed by the Town Manager!

I should get out a camcorder and tell this story on YouTube. Maybe with monthly updates. Time lapse video of our yard slowing sinking in? It would make a fun town council meeting.
